You can search all files for text.

File formats supported are text files with Windows, Macintosh or UNIX line endings, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Rich Text Format (RTF), HTML (web pages), PDF (Acrobat files), WordPerfect, OpenOffice, StarOffice, Lotus Symphony and Write files. All other formats are treated as binary files.

You can opt to search hidden and/or system files if you so wish.

When you start the program for the first time it is configured to search all files with the file specification *.* when using one of the search dialogs. However you can change this so that you can search for only certain file types. To search for just Word and Adobe PDF files you could use a file specification of *.doc *.pdf .

You can also specify that only files created before or after a certain date can be searched.

Searches can be within a certain folder or over a number of drives. If you search a folder you can opt to search in its sub folders as well.

From Windows Explorer you can also select files and folders to be searched by the program. They can either be dragged and dropped onto the program or you can right click on your selection and run the program from the context menu.
